Deepika Padukone revealed Salman Khan was the first person in the film industry to offer her a film
Deepika Padukone made her impressive Bollywood debut in 2007 with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Post this, there was no looking back for her as she went on to give many blockbusters. In her career spanning over more than a decade, Deepika has worked with many superstars and A-lister actors but never with Salman Khan. That’s indeed quite surprising. But did you know that the Sultan actor was the first person from the industry to offer Deepika a film but she refused it?
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the Piku actress has revealed the real reason why she refused her big debut in a Salman Khan film. Deepika revealed she was still a model at the time and did not wish to become an actor. While replying to a fan’s question about teaming up with Salman someday, the Gehraiyaan actress explained, “We've always had this beautiful relationship and I'll always be grateful to him because he was of the first people to offer me a film. It was just a tragedy that I was not ready for it. I had just started modelling and somebody I had worked with mentioned my work to him or he saw it.”
She added she was not ready for films. She didn't want to be an actor and then literally two years later, Om Shanti Om happened to her. Salman saw potential in her when even she did not know about it. Deepika further mentioned that after 15 years, she has got a chance to work with Hrithik Roshan in 'Fighter' and she hopes to work with Dabangg Khan one day.
Interestingly, Salman and Deepika may not have worked together in any films but the actress often appears on his popular reality show Bigg Boss to promote her movies. In the latest concluded season, Deepika visited the show to promote her film Gehraiyaan and joked that Salman is the actor she stocks the most on social media.
Talking about not working with Deepika in any film, Salman had earlier told DNA in 2020, “Deepika is a big star, so it has to be worth her while to do a film with me.
